General practice During his time in the Diplomatic Service Iain specialised in human rights, acting for the Government in proceedings before the European Court of Human Rights. His case-load covered a wide range of disputes concerning most aspects of civil and commercial law, employment, planning, contract, personal injuries and administrative law. He also represented the United Kingdom in a number of international negotiations at the Council of Europe and United Nations, and worked on several Parliamentary Bills including the Human Rights Act 1998. Media and Entertainment Since returning to private practice he has continued to specialise in human rights, particularly in the field of freedom of expression. He co-edits a book on The Law of Privacy and the Media. But his practice includes all areas of media law, including defamation, breach of confidence, contempt of court, data protection and freedom of information, as well as some work outside this field. Personal Iain has two young daughters with whom he spends much of his spare time. In addition he is a keen golfer and enjoys the performing arts and travel. |
