General Information:
Richard Buswell is an experienced barrister with many years in the field of Family Law. He specialises in Ancillary Relief cases, particularly those with international features or where trusts or insolvency have an impact, and all aspects of Wills and the Administration of Estates.

His workload covers a range of middle to high-income clients. He has been involved in a number of celebrity divorce cases where confidentiality, the press and injunctions (stopping the “kiss and tell” story) have been active issues (from footballers wives to TV show hosts). Whoever the client may be, his aim is to provide hard legal advice, effective representation and, where required, creative solutions to the problems presented.

Richard uses information technology to the full to meet the modern quality service demanded by clients today. He is based in the heart of Lincoln’s Inn, London, comes from Warwickshire and lives in Surrey. He travels throughout the country and abroad.

Richard lectures on specialist aspects of matrimonial disputes, family property claims and wills and estates, is an advocacy trainer for Middle Temple and is a committed adherent the lawyer-supported approach to Mediation.

Main Areas Include:
  • Ancillary Relief
  • ‘Forum conveniens’ disputes
  • Trusts or insolvency issues
  • Protection and recovery of assets (restitution, tracing and “freezing orders”)
  • ADR Mediation (as advocate and mediator)

    Background:
Family Law was a part of Richard’s practice from his early years. Having sharpened his advocacy skills, he soon divided his attention between Family Law and civil work – solicitors’ negligence, general chancery work and personal and medical injury. With further specialisation, his civil law background naturally led him to focus on the finances in divorce and separation.

    Other areas of practice include:
  • Breach of confidence
  • Financial claims for children
  • Co-ownership - unmarried couples
  • Inheritance claims

    Personal:
Richard was brought up in Stratford-upon-Avon. He spent several years working for a book publisher before practising as a barrister. He is married with a family. He plays tennis.
