John Rowland has a wide ranging commercial practice with particular specialisation
in insurance and re-insurance work and professional negligence. From the late 1980’s, John Rowland had a major involvement in the Lloyd’s Names Litigation acting variously for:- (a) Managing agents in relation to the Merrett, Wellington, Janson Green (long tail problems) and Feltrim (LMX problems) Litigation. (b) Members agents, in relation to the Outhwaite litigation. (c) Auditors in relation to the Secretan litigation. (d) Run-off agents for Gooda Walker Syndicates (LMX and other aspects affecting run-off) John Rowland appeared for the re-insured in Charter Re –v- Fagan. His recent or current work includes:- (a) Advising Lloyd’s on the introduction of captive syndicates. (b) Acting in a number of disputes in relation to the personal accident reinsurance spiral. (c) Advising on policy coverage in relation to Lloyd’s standard property insurance forms. (d) A number of coverage disputes under E & O and D & O Insurance. (e) Various reinsurance arbitrations involving coverage issues and non-disclosure/misrepresentation disputes. (f) Acted in case involving the interpretation of Section 51 of the Marine Insurance Act. (g) Acting for liquidators in two actions concerning sale of pension and investment products. John Rowland is co-author of the chapter on Underwriting Agents for the new Professional Negligence Encyclopaedia to be published this year by LLP. In addition to his insurance and reinsurance practice, John Rowland has acted in numerous professional negligence cases including those involving auditors and accountants, stockbrokers and commodity traders and engineers, surveyors and contractors. John Rowland’s practice as an advocate is predominately arbitration orientated. In addition, he accepts appointments as arbitrator. Recent appointments have concerned both construction and insurance disputes. He has recently concluded an arbitration as sole arbitrator in a dispute between the UK Government and a contractor concerning a computer simulator. He is currently acting as sole arbitrator in two insurance related disputes and as chairman on two further insurance disputes. |
