1972–1974 Trained with Farrer & Co, solicitors in Lincoln’s Inn Fields (2 years).

1975 Enrolled as a solicitor.

1975–1977 Assistant Solicitor with Wilde Sapte & Co in the City, specialising in banking law and commercial litigation (2˝ years).

1978-1979 Assistant Solicitor with Southall & Knight in the West End, running the firm’s Litigation Department (1 year).

1981 to date Assistant Solicitor, and Partner from 1983, with Crockers in the City:
Head of Media Department from 1990, dealing with libel, intellectual property and commercial litigation.
Senior Partner of Crockers Oswald Hickson from 1997;
Partner with Farrer & Co from June 2001.

Additional Experience

  • Roughneck (oil rigs) in the Yukon; lumberjack and cowboy in British Columbia; oyster fisherman in New Zealand; copper prospector in the Fiji islands; nickel prospector and juggie (oil-exploration) in Australia – 1969-1972.

  • Antique Dealer (C18 furniture) – 1972-1974.

  • Participated in, led, or been official photographer on numerous overseas expeditions including Operations Drake (1978-1980) and Raleigh (1984-1988) and in the Arctic (1999).

  • Served with the parachute regiment in TAVR – 1966 to 1969.

  • Designed and supervised the construction of a notable timber frame building using medieval construction techniques – 1991 to 1993.
