Tom Dixon is Managing Director of Dixon Rankin Chartered Surveyors, based in London with a nationwide professional practice. He is a graduate in Estate Management of London University, a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a member of the Council of Institute of Revenues Rating and Valuation, and its immediate Past President; and a national committee member of the Rating Surveyors Association. He has some 30 years professional experience and has always specialised in rating matters, including a number of appearences before the Lands Tribunal.

After graduation from the College of Estate Management, he held appointments at Gerald Eve, Jones Lang La Salle and Strutt & Parker. He spent 12 years in the Valuation Office Agency which he left as a Principal Valuer to join Landers (prior to its amalgamation with Sallmans) in 1987. He was appointed Partner in charge of the Rating Department in January 1988 and Managing Director of the restructured valuation practice in May 1991.

He has contributed to the Owlion audio cassettes "Rating in the 1990's" and "The 1995 Rating Revaluation" for the RICS and the College of Estate Management, and has lectured extensively on various aspects of rating. He has advised the governments of Bulgaria and Romania on the possible introduction of local property tax, and is the author of "Business Rates - Your Guide", now in it's 3rd Edition. He is entered on the Law Society's List of Accredited Expert Witnesses and is an accredited Mediator.

Tom is married with three children is and lives in St Albans. He is "Master of Fireworks" to St Albans Cathedral, and on the committee of the Chartered Surveyors Wine Society. He spent over thirty years in the Reserve Forces. firstly as a Royal Marine, and latterly in the Royal Artillery Specialist Wing as a Naval Gunfire Liaison Officer.
