Michael Howard has been in practice at the Bar since 1972, in Queen Elizabeth Building until 1989, and from 1989 onwards at 4 Essex Court. He advises and acts as advocate in commercial and shipping litigation.
He has been Leader of the Admiralty since 2000.
Scope of practice
The subject-matter of the cases in which he has acted as arbitrator reflects the range of subject-matter covered by Mr Howard's advocacy practice: appointments have included disputes concerning (among others):-

(iv)environmental issues;

(viii)maritime contracts (all kinds)

(xi)supply and distributorship agreements;
(xii)technical disputes (for example ship construction, quantification of damages.
